Uma napping on her chilly friends.

It has been a long time...when we turn the computer on it says low disc space so I am not posting.

When we put our tree up last weekend we pushed the furniture aside and when we were finished and moved it around again this is what we found, Uma sound asleep on her snow friends, I took a few pictures so she woke up, but she was snuggled right down in. Now the snow people are under the tree again like last year! Merry Christmas!

Lest We Forget!

In Flanders Fields

by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

Fall photos!

Notice that my title says Fall photos.....looks like someone had a fall...in the mud. The other side is clean! This first picture is of a brook that is at the edge of the property and is my Fall/Autumn photo! (I wanted Cherokee's picture first but..well...yea...next time, I will get it right) We had a lovely day on Sunday 17C and lots of sun, but we are back to single digits again, heavy frost thismorning...leaves are really falling...crunch crunch!

Movie set in town!

There is a new movie being filmed in town..Moby Dick. William Hurt and Ethan Hawke are in it. I haven't seen them or anything, but it is exciting just the same.
This is a picture of a false building that was built in the middle of the street.
This is the back of the false building, see it is only the front. In the center of the building you can see another building with red trim, this is our Dory Shop Museum, that several years ago was refinished to film The Scarlet Letter, with Demi Moore, also on the right is an old warehouse that was also refinished for the Scarlet Letter. We enjoyed the movie but I guess it wasn't the hit elsewhere that they thought it would be.

A small two sided structure to cover our lost fishermen monument.

A really cute fully finished church, that was built for the new movie. Cute picket fence also new!

Front of the false building it says Nantucket Warf. The yellow building is our local tavern, and the movie people want to paint it, but that is another story.....They even covered our brick sidewalk with wood, they will also cover the road with dirt.
This is our 3rd big movie, seeing how they do things is kind of cool, makes you wonder when you watch tv what is real and what is put up and tore right down again.
They did a casting call but they were very specific, you had to have natural color long hair, a size 6 dress size. Yea right!!! Supposed to start filming this week, too bad I have to work. Maybe I'll get more pictures this week...stay tuned...

Hurricane Bill

Hurricane Bill passed by us early Sunday morning, luckily for the most part we only received rain and small amount of wind, but the seas were fabulous! We drove around for about 4 hours here and there along the coast and each spot we went the waves got better and better. It was hard to pick my favorite photos!! What made the waves so great was that it was high tide as well.

Fun in the sun!

OOps forgot to title my post!
I'm not very good at this, I meant for the lighthouse picture to be first! Anyway, last Sunday we went out in our friends boat, we have a really long harbour, with an Island at the entrance and I'd never gone around the whole island because it is open ocean. I get a little queasy, but did well! It was a beautiful day, so the lighthouse is on the island and can only be seen from a boat, entering the harbour. We've hiked the island a couple of times, it is 7km long, so quite a hike return trip. This was the first time I'd seen it from this angle, I was not disappointed! After we rounded the island and started back toward the harbour, we spotted a whale, not sure of the size, but very exciting just the same, my first whale!! I'm jumping around a little the name of the lighthouse is Cape Roseway and it is on McNutt's Island, built in 1788. We are waiting to see if Hurricane Bill is going to hit us....so far nothing!

Relaxing at the beach!

We just got back from a short camping trip, we went to Thomas Raddall Provincial Park about 1/2 hour from home.....we didn't have a drop of rain....yea! We had a very relaxing time, played in the water, and walked the beaches and trails. Oldest son babysat the critters, and all was well! They survived without us, we'll just have to go again!!!!

A beautiful weekend finally!

After several years of not going camping, Hubby and I went. We left the boys home to fend for themselves and most importantly look after my babies; horse, donkeys, chickens and cats. We only went across the harbour to our Provincial campground, about 7 minutes from home, but believe me that was far enough for our first time. The animals were all alive and well when we got home, after being gone 24 hours! We had no fewer than 30 ducks right outside our door thismorning, but I didn't count on feeding the wildlife so I didn't have anything to give them, but next time I will!

A happy picture!

I'm feeling a lot down, so I've searched through my pictures for a nice happy picture. Last weekend we were traveling down the road when the truck in front of us stopped, then we saw this lovely creature crossing the road then wandered into someones yard and started to eat their hostas. I do not have a fancy camera so this is very close, out of the car window, you could see the fuzz on the antlers.
Now to the reason I'm so down........if it soon doesn't stop raining we'll have to build an ark, this is the rainiest summer we've ever had and with below normal temperatures too. We haven't seen the sun for a week and that was one day last weekend and before that it was another week. I've only had shorts on about 5 times!!!!!booohoooo! Please send summer to Nova Scotia!

Relaxing Sunday!

Yesterday afternoon Ethan, Carman and myself went into my parents cabin on the river. There was a nice breeze, so there were no flies, and it wasn't too warm. My Dad made this log cabin, we all helped to peel the logs, it was all done without the luxury of power. My parents were there along with my brother and his family. This is a shot of Etan out in the kayak. The river was so calm, usually it is quite fast flowing by.

Happy Birthday Canada!

Today is Canada's 142nd Birthday!
We chose to stay home and do nothing, nothing, nothing. The weather was drizzlie so it was a good indoor tv kind of a day.
We just heard some fireworks off in the distance. Yippie!!

Drizzlie but busy weekend

I couldn't decide which picture was better so I put them both.
Friday night we loaded Ethan and his horse and they went to a clinic in town, it called for rain all weekend but it ended up just drizzle. Poor Emily, one of the donkeys, was very upset when we took Cherokee out of the pasture, she butted the gate with her head and pawed the ground and paced by the gate, she's never acted like this when Cherokee's gone before, he's been gone twice already this spring. She settled down after a little while. Max the other donkey didn't seem the least bit bothered that he was gone.
The weekend went by very quickly, all went well, Ethan and Cherokee rode well, Cherokee was very happy to get home, Emily and Max sniffed him all over and all was back to normal.
Can not believe that summer is here....note the heavy flannel jacket that Ethan is wearing.
Happy Summer!

Wildflowers

I found this pretty little flower growing along the electric fence line, I think it is a trillium.
This little beauty is growing along the driveway in the woods, my favorite wildflower.

My arbor is finished!

Yesterday I finally got to put finishing touches on the arbor, I must say it looks good for being slightly used! Still not sure where it will go but it looks fine where we put it for now. At a gate to what used to be the donkey pen, which now leads to the chicken house and their pen.
Sorry that it is so small, the chicken house is on the left and the hosta garden on the right....see how happy they are now that they are safe inside a fence not being eaten by the BAD chickens!

Enjoying another day off

I am enjoying a quiet day alone, so far I painted a little on my arbor, that we were given that was gently used. It now has to be turned over so the other side can be painted. It was lovely earlier, I could smell the ocean, we are a couple of km away so it is a treat when I can smell it. To think when we first were married we lived in Ottawa, on an Air force base and when we moved home I missed the smell of jet fuel...crazy...I do love the ocean.
Now the sun is shining, so I hung out the laundry, I also love laundry on the line.
Not sure what the afternoon will bring, maybe some weeding ...fun, fun, fun!

Where did May go?

We are having typical Nova Scotia weather wait 1/2 hour and it will change.

This is the first nice day for a week, the lilacs and apple blossoms are in full bloom, the air smells so nice there is a nice breeze, so the flowers scents are drifting in the air.
Last evening we sat out by the fireplace till it got too misty, and listened to the peepers and froggies.
We finally got the netting up around the veg garden so we can now plant, the net is to keep the chickens out.
My pots are still alive on the step, the chickens haven't spotted them....
I put out my hummingbird feeder, and one has been visiting. I love this time of year!!

A lovely day to play

Finally after what seems like weeks of rain a beautiful day, even better a day off work, it is 33C, lovely, lovely, lovely.

I potted some annuals thismorning, hopefully we won't get a frost and kill them, it is still early to put out annuals. Just some pansy and marigold plants.

Last weekend we built simple steps in the rain,we were waiting to get some logs sliced in half to make sturdy log steps but I could not wait any longer, since I already waited a year, last year we put in the patio door where a window was. I love my steps!!

Max on the lookout!

We were working in the garden and I looked up and Max was watching from on top of the poo pile. He would much rather "help", but we were on the other side of his fence.

Happy Late Mother's Day!

I got up to feed the animals yesterday morning and what did I see but a Kwanzan Japanese Cherry tree by my doorstep. I was so very excited, it was from the boys and Hubby didn't know either! We have it on wheels so we can decide where it will live!

Note the white chicken poking around and the water bottle laying around.....and the apple tree with fuzzy little leaf buds. Beside the apple tree we cleared in the Fall, looking for a location for a garden shed/greenhouse, still but a dream!
Hope you had a great day!

A Big Day in the Neighborhood!

Today is the first day in about a week that it hasn't rained, it wasn't sunny, but it was dry!
We finally have a department store in town!!!
Our only department store closed down in February, and this week a new one opened, its called The Bargain Shop.....it is no Walmart but it sure is good to have somewhere to get a pair of socks.
I treated myself to a pair with Eeyore on them.

Another beautiful day!

Today we had another perfect day.
We sat out with shorts on, in the shade.
Tonight we took a walk back on the property, we found and picked two bunches of May Flowers, and heard a whole chorus of peepers. Our property borders with an old railway bed and tressel or trestle(not sure which) over a brook where the peepers live, an absolutely wonderful sound!!
On a not so good note I had the first TICK of the season yuck!

A beautiful day!

We had a lovely day today!
The weather was absolutely beautiful, about 20C in the sun.
We worked around the yard, we split wood and piled it, raked up winter yuck, and counted the lilies again. When we took #2 son to work, we stopped and bought a new BBQ, we hadn't had a BBQ for a couple of years so it was quite a treat!! We also bought a small patio block to stand the bird bath on in the lily garden. I am so excited it is looking like spring, finally!

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

I can not believe that it is the 22nd already, where has the time gone.
It rained and the wind blew all day, I'm anxious for the weather to clear in the next few days to see what may appear in my flower gardens. Each day I check on my lilies, tonight after I put the chickens to bed I peeked in the garden and a new lily was poking out.
My son planted a few veg seeds in the house last week and now some are 8 inches high, and it is too cold to put them out not sure if we can keep them till it is time! Fun experiment anyway!!
